SCHOOL UNIFORM

At Ounsdale High School we believe that a smart uniform helps to instil pride and a sense of loyalty to the school. In the long run it is both practical and economical. The blazer, trousers, tie, and badged PE kit are stocked by Abbiss in Wombourne.

We do not insist on any particular design or colour of coat or anorak but we would prefer them to be as dark and as plain as possible, and for any logo to be as small as possible. Denim and leather jackets, track suit tops and hooded or other sweatshirts (‘Hoodies’) are NOT to be worn.

EQUIPMENT

Bags
A rucksack or plastic carrier bag is useful for games clothes to keep them separate from text books. It is suggested that any bag bought for carrying books should be one which has two straps and is worn on the back with the straps on both shoulders.

Items which are needed every day: Planner, pen; pencil; ruler; eraser; scientific calculator, pencil case, reading book.
Desirable Items: Maths equipment; coloured pencils; small dictionary.
Protective Clothing
It is essential that an overall or apron is worn for lessons in the Design and Technology Department and these are provided by the school.
Make Up
Discreet make up only should be worn
Hair
Only natural hair colours are permitted
Jewellery

  • Pupils are allowed to wear a watch
  • Only small plain sleeper or stud earrings are permissible in the lobe of the ear (not cartilage/tragus)
  • A maximum of one sleeper or stud per earlobe is allowed. We do not allow any other form of “Pierced Jewellery” such as stretchers, eyebrow studs or nose studs to be worn in school (which includes the journey to and from school)
  • A cross or chain can be worn underneath the blouse or shirt
  • No other jewellery (including rings, bracelets or non-school badges) is allowed
  • All jewellery must be removed for PE lessons and sports fixtures

Mobile Phones
Students are allowed to bring their mobile phones into school but there are strict guidelines regarding their use and all students must follow these (see website).
As technology advances at a rapid rate we also have to amend our policies to keep pace. We have already seen students with smart watches in school. As these carry much of the same functionality as mobile phones, we will treat them in the same way where their use is distracting students from effective learning. In formal assessments, internal or external examinations smart watches must be switched off and handed in or left in bags.
As we cannot take responsibility for loss or damage to any personal equipment or possessions, we strongly advise students against bringing valuable items into school.
