Curriculum (sixth form)

YEARS 12 AND 13 (THE SIXTH FORM)

The Invictus Sixth Form curriculum gives students who have the ability to meet the demands of advanced level the opportunity to study a wide range of AS/A2 and BTEC options. Through our Post-16 collaboration with Ellowes Hall, Crestwood, Pedmore, Leasowes and Kinver schools we offer an extensive range of courses. Talented, specialist teachers, small group sizes and personalised learning are fundamental to our success and ensure that each student has the support and challenge needed to fulfil their potential. 10 hours per fortnight is devoted to the study of each ‘A’ level or BTEC subject in Years 12 and 13.

Each year we hold a separate Invictus Sixth Form Open Evening for students wishing to apply for a place in the Sixth Form and there is a Sixth Form prospectus available. These and the school’s website give full details of the opportunities offered, entry requirements and application process.

Students following an advanced course usually study three subjects to A level up to Year 13. In a few subjects (Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology) students have the opportunity to sit the AS examination at the end of Year 12. A few very able students will study four subjects to full A Level.

The ‘Futures’ (PSHE, HE and Careers Guidance) course and Enrichment Activities are also part of each student’s course. The Enrichment Programme takes place on Wednesday afternoons and students choose from a wide range of activities and courses such as; Jewellery making, Product Design, Sign language, Keepfit, Certificate in Personal Finance, Arts Award, Cookery for university/Certificate in food hygiene, Extended Project Qualification, Sixth Form Newsletter with a Literacy Award attached and conversational Spanish.

The subjects offered at A level are Art, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Computing, English Language and Literature, English Literature, Further Mathematics, Geography, German, History, Mathematics, Philosophy and Ethics, Physical Education, Physics, Product Design, Psychology, Religious Studies and Sociology. We also offer BTEC Advanced courses in Physical Education, Performing Arts, Travel and Tourism, Law, Applied Science, Health and Social Care, Forensic Science and a National Diploma in single and double award ICT.

Senior staff interview all students in Year 11 to discuss their educational plans for the future and those wanting to continue their education into the Sixth Form are advised as to the best course for them.
